COLOR


Being a natural product, quarried from the earth, stone slabs will have slight color variations (dark to light, etc.) and other characteristics such as veins, fissures, mineral deposits and other inclusions.
These variations make up the beauty and individual characteristics of each slab of material. GerrityStone requires material selection approval from each customer for these reasons.

SLAB THICKNESS


Slabs come in standard 2cm and 3cm thickness. However, they are not gauged and the thickness of a slab may vary plus or minus 1/8 of an inch.

MATERIAL FINISHES


Brushed Finish (Textured) / Polished Finish / Honed Finish (Flat) A brushed and honed finish will require more daily maintenance than a polished finish. Since there is more exposed surface area with brushed and honed finishes, metal mark, finger prints and other signs of daily living will show on these material finishes.

PITTING


These results are from the granite’s crystalline structure or characteristics, which can sometimes result in small spaces that from between the varying mineral crystals. In some instances, certain tiny crystals may also be removed during the polishing process, causing the pits to become more visible. Various steps are taken during the finishing process to reduce the visibility of these pits, but they cannot be totally avoided in all granite types. Pitting contributes to the stone unique personality. Pitting will note become worse with regular use or the passage of time.

DULL SPOTS


Some minerals deposits within the granite may not accept the same level of polish as the rest of the crystals. These spots may be visible on the darker crystals found in some granite.

FISSURES


A natural result of the heating and cooling of the stone during its formation millions of years ago. Fissures will not grow or expand over time. Sometimes appear as though a piece of fine “hair” is on the surface.
