Green Products
Sourcing innovative product solutions for our customers has always been a key to GerrityStone's success. However, the fact that we have the largest inventory in New England is not what should be important to you. What's meaningful is that we can help you select just the right product to meet your needs.
Defining what makes a countertop "green" depends on your point of view. No matter which of the following aspects of "green" are important to you, we can help you find the perfect material.
- Recycled Content
- Locally Sourced
- Reclaimed Pieces
- Remnant/ Post-industrial Pieces
- Longevity/ Lifespan Consideration
1. Recycled Content: At GerrityStone, we offer a wide variety of beautiful and functional products that contain recycled content (Icestone, Eco by Cosentino, Silestone, Caesarstone). Key properties vary and we can assist you in determining which is right for you as we work to discover your decision criteria, lifestyle, and design taste.
2. Locally Sourced: Materials sourced within 500 miles of your project site will contribute points toward LEED certification. For project sites in New England, the quarries we rely on most are in Vermont and Canada. Knowledge about specific materials available locally is a competitive advantage for us and the list of materials appropriate for each specific design objective is as unique as the project itself.
3. Reclaimed Pieces: Occasionally, we meet customers who ask us to remove natural stone products from one part of the home (kitchen) and repurpose it in another area of the home (bath). Sometimes this request is driven, simply, by a desire to update a room’s design and other times it is a desire to pay homage to a time in history by reclaiming an old favorite for use in a new way.
4. Remnant/ Post-Industrial: As a by-product of our fabrication process, we are often left with sizeable pieces of beautiful, first-quality stone as remnant material from our manufacturing process. These materials are a perfect fit for vanity tops, fireplace surrounds, and other small projects. Because of the large volume of fabrication we do, our customers find an enormous and ever-changing inventory of options for these smaller projects where cutting into a full-size slab would be cost prohibitive and could disproportionately negatively impact the waste stream.
5. Longevity: Our natural stone products (marble, granite, limestone, quartzite, soapstone, etc) have properties that give them unprecedented longevity. They are amongst the few natural products whose useful-life can span centuries. Stone that has built the Egyptian pyramids to the Greek and Roman empires continue to stand today approximately 3500 years later. The use of natural stone is consistent with the Green Building Principles of selecting products with long life-span and low maintenance costs. We work diligently to source new, exciting materials for our customers and we are testing new products constantly so that we can give you honest feedback about how they compare in five key areas:
- Composition
- Heat resistance
- Scratch resistance
- Stain resistance
- Breadth of color selection
